A driver is in custody after a car crashes into Detroit Metropolitan Airport’s (DTW) Warren Evans Terminal michigan on Friday morning, briefly disrupting operations and prompting a massive police response, according to officials and local reports.
The incident occurred at around 10 a.m. local time on May 29, when a car drove into the terminal structure, broke the glass and entered the construction area before stopping.
Authorities confirmed one person was detained at the scene.
“A driver has been arrested after a collision at the Warren Evans Terminal at Detroit Metropolitan Airport in Michigan,” AZ Intel posted on X, along with video showing police activity outside the terminal.
Witnesses and airport staff described confusion and fear when the vehicle unexpectedly entered the terminal area.
An employee who said he was about 10 feet from the crash described the moment the vehicle crashed through the entrance. “He drove all the way from here, in the middle, came in through door four, drove through, broke the glass and everything,” the worker told ClickOnDetroit.
He said the situation immediately raised concerns about safety.
“It’s scary, man, we don’t know what to do,” he said. “We didn’t know what was in the car. There were a lot of people around. There could be a threat, so everyone was nervous.”
Another witness said the driver initially drove onto the sidewalk to avoid the concrete barrier before heading toward the terminal entrance. Witnesses also claimed that a woman fell and injured her knee during the incident.
Witnesses said the driver appeared to be yelling at people to get out of the way before speeding towards the building.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that the driver responsible for the accident has been detained collision.
The terminal was temporarily closed following the incident but reopened before 11 a.m., ClickOnDetroit reported.

Authorities have not released the identity of the driver or said whether charges will be filed.
