Delhi on high alert: Intel agencies warn of terror attacks; security stepped up at BJP headquarters

New Delhi: Delhi has been put on high alert after intelligence inputs suggested a possible terror threat, prompting Delhi Police and other security agencies to step up surveillance at several sensitive locations.“Police have been instructed to maintain strict vigilance against suspicious activities, unattended objects and vehicles parked in sensitive areas,” PTI quoted an official as saying.Security agencies have been alerted about possible attempts to target prominent offices and crowded areas in central Delhi through suicide attacks, vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (IEDs), shootings and coordinated attacks, officials said.Security has been tightened around the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters and nearby government institutions on Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (DDU) Marg, with additional deployment of armed personnel, roadblocks and intensified vehicle checks.Also read: Delhi Police arrests suspects linked to Indian and Pakistani crime gangsAnti-vandal inspections are underway at major government buildings, political offices, markets, transport hubs and other crowded locations across the city.Bomb disposal squad, sniffer dog unit, quick response team and Delhi Fire Service have also been put on alert.From a law and order perspective, security measures have also been stepped up in settlements and areas considered vulnerable, while local police are conducting random inspections and verification campaigns.Senior officials are closely monitoring the situation and reviewing security arrangements across the city.On November 10 last year, a car exploded near the Red Fort, killing at least 15 people and injuring more than 20 people. It was the first terrorist attack in the capital since 2011.
