Foreign Minister Sibi George met with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Deyhun Bayramov in Baku on Friday to review bilateral relations and exchange views on regional and global issues of common interest. The talks marked an attempt to mend ties between the two countries after Azerbaijan’s rift with Pakistan, which saw Baku support Islamabad during India’s Operation Sindoor last year. The sixth round of India-Azerbaijan Foreign Ministry consultations was also held in Baku, co-chaired by George and Deputy Foreign Minister Ernur Mamedov. “Both sides conducted a comprehensive review of the current status of bilateral relations, covering areas of mutual interest. Issues discussed included trade, technology, tourism, medicine, energy, culture, people-to-people exchanges and combating cross-border terrorism,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement, adding that the two sides agreed to hold the next round of foreign ministry consultations in New Delhi.
