DeAndre Kane: 5 things to know about Penn State basketball player arrested at airport in $100K child support case

Officials said the amount owed was more than $100,000, prompting enforcement action through family courts and law enforcement channels.

Last week, detectives with the Sheriff’s Office, along with Allegheny County police and the U.S. Department of State, learned Kane was due to return to Pittsburgh from Iceland on Friday.

He plays for the Icelandic team Grindavik, which won the league title two weeks ago, according to a statement from Allegheny County Sheriff Kevin Krause.

2. DeAndre Kane was arrested at the airport. The 36-year-old basketball player was arrested at Pittsburgh International Airport as he got off a plane from a trip to Iceland.

3. Kane owes more than $100,000. Court records cited in the report show the amount of unpaid child support exceeds six figures. In many states, including Pennsylvania, courts can take aggressive enforcement actions when support obligations go unpaid for an extended period of time.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Kane has been wanted since 2023 after he failed to show up for a Family Court hearing regarding unpaid child support.

4. As a professional basketball player, Kane has received many honors. The athlete reportedly made a career out of professional basketball, including work outside the United States.

The 6-foot-5 guard played at Marshall University and Iowa State University after leading Pittsburgh’s Schenley High School to the City League championship in 2008. Kane has represented teams in several countries since 2014. He has been playing for Iceland since 2023.

5. Kane is being held in the Allegheny County Jail. After his arrest at the Penn State Airport, Kane was transferred to the Allegheny County Jail where he awaits a Family Court hearing on the issue of unpaid child support.
