According to reports, the suspect was wearing dark clothing and carrying a backpack. according to WJAR. Police noticed the man fleeing on foot.
Residents were asked to shelter in place while police pursued the suspect.

The person who was shot was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead. Cranston Police Maj. Todd Patalano and WPRI said the man was shot multiple times after opening the door of a home on Legion Way. “We believe someone came to the house and knocked on the door,” the police chief told the publication.
He added that the suspect was then seen fleeing the house where the victim was shot. Additional details about the victims were not immediately released.

Prior to reports of police describing the suspect, someone wrote on Facebook that they had received a text message describing a suspect in the shooting. “I just got a text message.
A short time later, a shooting occurred at 289 Legion Road. The suspect was described as fleeing on foot wearing only dark clothing and carrying a backpack. If you see anyone matching this description, please shelter in place and call 911. Please do not approach as this person is believed to be armed. Stay safe, Cranston friends! ” the person wrote.
