In 1974, Davis took over the recording division of Columbia Pictures and founded his own record label, Arista, which became famous for artists such as “Barry Manilow” and “Whitney Houston.” In 2000, he was expelled from Arista by parent company BMG, but shortly thereafter he founded a new label, J, distributed by BMG.
