New Delhi: With the Bastar division in Chhattisgarh emerging from Maoist control, state Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah here on Tuesday to discuss the roadmap for development and infrastructure development in the region in the coming months. Sai’s visit, the first after the March 31, 2026 deadline to eliminate Naxalism, is seen as crucial in shaping the future of Bastar, state government sources told TOI. “The chief minister’s meeting with the Prime Minister and His Majesty the King will focus on the post-Mao scenario with detailed discussions on expansion of infrastructure, promotion of industry and investment, large-scale job creation for local youth and inclusive development of tribal areas,” an official said.Development in Bastar is now becoming a national priority, not just in Chhattisgarh, as it has borne the brunt of Naxalism for decades. Maoist writs spread across large swaths of the district, hampering administrative jurisdiction and denying tribals living there the right to benefit from governance, development and welfare initiatives. However, with significant security gains over the past year ensuring that no significant Maoist leader is active in Bastar, the focus has now shifted towards mainstreaming the area quickly.
