New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi The Center on Friday launched a sharp attack during the debate on the Women’s Reservation Bill and delimitation proposal, claiming that the legislation is aimed at redrawing India’s electoral balance rather than empowering women.Senior officials address Lok Sabha during special session of Parliament congress Leaders say the government is using women’s reservation as a cover to pursue political goals and retain power. He also accused the Center of trying to dilute the political voice of OBCs and Dalits through constituency reorganization.Rahul Gandhi said the entire opposition would resist what he called “anti-national” moves and thwart any attempt to change democratic structures in partisan interests.
Rahul Gandhi believes the bill is more about political engineering through redistricting than representation of women. He said the proposed delimitation exercise would change the electoral map in a way that would benefit the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and undermine the existing social justice framework. He also claimed that the move was to reduce the political influence of backward communities and marginalized groups.Despite criticizing the bill, Rahul Gandhi strongly praised the role of women in society and politics, saying they remained central to the country’s identity and progress. He said women shape the lives and minds of everyone in Parliament through their influence as mothers, sisters and family members.Rahul Gandhi also injected humor into the debate during his address, eliciting laughter from the House.“The prime minister and I myself have no wife problems…” he said of the role women play in shaping men’s lives. He also mentioned his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and joked that she made Union Home Minister Amit Shah smile, achieving something that he had not achieved in years. The debate was held during a special session of Parliament to discuss reservation and delimitation issues for women. The opposition fears that linking the implementation of women’s quotas to delimitation could have wider implications for federal balance, regional representation and caste-based political participation.
