Public controversy breaks out among political commentators Candace Owens and Blake Neff’s word on who was chosen to succeed Charlie Kirk as head of Turning America.
The controversy began on April 1 when Neff shared a post on X recounting an interaction at an event at Arizona State University (ASU).
Neff said questions were raised about the organization’s leadership in the following circumstances: Kirk’s deathhe insisted there was “no doubt” about his successor.
In a video accompanying the post, Neff said that while Kirk is still alive, there are occasional concerns about his safety. He described Kirk as “totally fearless” and claimed the TPUSA founder would say Erica Kirk would “succeed him.”
She further questioned the claim in another post, asking: “Are we buying this?” and questioning why such a video, if it existed, had not been released publicly.
Owens also criticized the explanation for withholding the video, writing: “To better understand this, they withheld video footage of Charlie Kirk – just weeks before his death – naming Erica as the person he wanted to take over the company, because the video might incite psychopathic predators. But the audio? That was Erica’s departure music.”
Neff responded sharply to Owens’ request, arguing that the decision not to release the footage was intentional.
He claimed that “psychotic predators” like Owens “don’t care” about the truth and defended the group’s stance.
He also criticized Owens’ alleged conspiracy-driven explanation, referring to her tendency to “see the cipher” in the number “33.”
Neff added that even if the video evidence is released, critics may argue it is artificial or manipulated, suggesting it could be labeled AI-generated or otherwise fabricated.
He concluded that TPUSA had given up on the possibility of “any good-faith dialogue” with Owens months ago.
The controversy also prompted comments from the President of the United States Donald Trumpfurther focusing on the debate surrounding Erica Kirk’s leadership.
In a recent public appearance, Trump addressed Erica Kirk directly and suggested she take legal action against her critics, saying she should “Sue their a**“.
Owens later cited Trump’s comments in his criticism, arguing that attention should be focused on the unanswered questions surrounding Charlie Kirk. She also said legal action could force more details into the public domain.
