Millions of people attended nationwide “No King” rallies, which also attracted numerous public figures and celebrities. Flagships gather minnesota became a major cultural and political event.
Among the biggest names in attendance are Bruce Springsteen, Jane Fonda and Maggie Rogers, all of whom are scheduled to speak or perform at the St. Paul event.
The demonstrations were part of a nationwide wave of protests against Donald Trump’s administration and have been described as one of the largest coordinated protest movements in recent US history.
The movement focused on the Kingless Minnesota protests, which included a variety of political and entertainment figures.
In response to the recent shootings of Alex Pretty and Renee Goode by federal ICE agents, Springsteen wrote the protest song “Streets of Minneapolis” and headlined the event.
In addition to Springsteen, other notable figures include Jane Fonda, Maggie Rogers and Joan Baez. U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders also addressed the crowd on democratic issues.
In New York, actor Robert De Niro was an organizer of the “No King” protest.
Just before the main march was scheduled to begin in Central Park, De Niro, state Attorney General Letitia James, the city’s Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, the Rev. Al Sharpton and Padma Lakshmi were all seen in the crowd holding hand-painted banners. The banner read: “We protect our democracy – the people not billionaires – and we protect our neighbors.”
Bill Nye was seen giving an interview to MS NOW during the No Kings protest in Washington, DC. He spoke about the shooting deaths of two citizens in Minneapolis in January and criticized ICE agents for failing to face consequences for the incident.
“Extraordinary times require extraordinary action, and we are living in a very unusual and disturbing period,” he said.
