British father jailed for murdering 8-month-old son, who suffered more than 80 injuries across his body, mother jailed for manslaughter News of the World

A London couple have been jailed for killing their eight-month-old son, who suffered more than 80 injuries in the weeks before his death.Emmanuel Turner, 33, was sentenced to 22 years in prison for the murder of his son, Devaun Rose-Turner. The child’s mother, Shandies Rose, 29, was jailed for 12 years for manslaughter, the BBC reported. The pair were sentenced at Luton Crown Court on Wednesday over the death of Devaughan, who died at his home in Beagleswade, Bedfordshire, in December 2021.Emergency services were called after Turner reported his son was not breathing. DeVaughn was taken to the hospital but died a short time later.During the sentencing hearing, Judge Fabey said the baby had suffered tremendous pain and criticized both parents for not seeking medical attention.“You all knew he was in pain. You all decided to hide it, so he didn’t get medical help,” the judge told them. The court heard DeVaughan suffered a series of “injuries”, with more than 80 different injuries recorded in the eight weeks before his death. Prosecutors said the injuries showed ongoing abuse.Following Devaughan’s death, Bedfordshire Police launched a lengthy investigation. Turner and Ross were arrested on suspicion of murder in 2022 but were released pending inquiries and detectives are gathering further evidence.Police later discovered the couple had traveled to Nigeria while the investigation was ongoing. When they returned to the UK in May 2024, police arrested them at the airport and they were subsequently charged.Turner and Ross were also convicted of causing or allowing a child to suffer grievous harm.Detective Inspector Lee Martin, who is leading the investigation, said the case was complex and challenging.“From the beginning, our focus has been on finding out what happened to DeVaughn and getting him justice, and our team worked tirelessly to ensure he had a voice,” Martin said.“Nothing can undo what happened to him, but today’s sentence reflects the relentless efforts of our officers to ensure that those who were supposed to care for and protect him were held accountable for the abuse he suffered.”He added that the force’s thoughts remain with DeVaughn.
