Brampton’s Indian-born ‘Visa King’ shuts down social media after showing off $300,000 worth of stuff in video

An Indian-origin immigration consultant in Brampton has shut down his Instagram account after sparking controversy after he showed off a luxury watch reportedly worth $300,000 in a video. The consultant, whose Instagram handle is “Canadian Visa King” and Facebook handle is “Visa King office Canada Channi Bhai,” went viral after posting a video bragging about the number of Canadian visas he had obtained for clients. Some say he is taking advantage of immigrants who want to move to Canada. They also say his flashy lifestyle makes immigration look easier and more successful than it really is, masking the financial struggles many face. Others accuse immigration consultants of exploiting loopholes in the system, including giving priority to relatives or taking bribes.

Most criticism has focused on the Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) scheme. There are allegations that jobs in industries such as trucking, agriculture and hospitality are being sold to immigrants through informal networks between Punjab and Canada. The networks are said to be operated through unregistered agencies. However, these claims have not been legally proven. There are also concerns that immigrants come to Canada with large amounts of debt, which could make them easy targets for exploitation.Under Canadian law, Indian citizens require a visa or permit to enter Canada, including a visitor visa, study permit, work permit or permanent residence route. Applications are processed by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, and approval is subject to eligibility and appropriate documentation.

One Canadian entrepreneur weighed in on the whole issue, saying: “As you can see, and as you can imagine, immigration to Canada is a very big business. In fact, I’ve heard that a lot of people who come here temporarily are being taken advantage of.” They added: “I’ve heard of people paying $40,000 just to get a job just so they could work 80 hours a week at minimum wage. They’re actually paying that money to commit to becoming Canadian citizens. I think the whole LMI A program is probably the biggest scam we have across Canada. I honestly feel terrible for these immigrants.” Their conclusion: “Taking $40,000 out of a third world country is an impossible task. Let alone doing it in Canada and saving the money. They paid, they did it to give their families a better life, and they ended up being taken advantage of.”
