Braman Tornado: ‘Large and extremely dangerous’ tornado in severe weather in Kay County, Oklahoma; video emerges

A large and dangerous tornado struck Kay County, Oklahoma, Thursday night, according to the National Weather Service.

A tornado appeared southwest of Braman and severe storms swept through areas near Braman and Ponca City, prompting emergency warnings.

Video captured by storm trackers and residents showed a tornado moving through the area.

The National Weather Service also confirmed that at least two tornadoes – an EF0 near Ponca City and an EF1 near Kau Lake – were part of the active tornado. bad weather outbreak.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

A tornado warning is in effect for northwest Kay County until 8:00 p.m. CT on Thursday, with officials warning of life-threatening conditions developing in the area.

The National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed in an alert that a “large and extremely dangerous” tornado was near Braman at 7:18 p.m. Central Time, moving east at 15 mph.

Officials described the storm as a “particularly dangerous situation” and urged residents to take shelter immediately.

The main danger is destructive tornadoes, which can produce deadly flying debris, according to the National Weather Service. Authorities warned that those without adequate shelter could be at serious risk and mobile homes could be destroyed. Considerable damage to homes, businesses and vehicles is expected, with possible total destruction in the path of the tornado.

Areas affected by the warning include Braman, Peckham and Blackwell Lakes. A section of Interstate 35 between mile markers 228 and 233 is also in the caution zone.

Residents of affected areas are strongly urged to seek shelter in a sturdy structure, preferably in an indoor room on the lowest floor, away from windows.
