Bhimpur (ST) election results 2026: BJP’s Dr. Pranat Tudu wins seat by 22,977 votes, defeating TMC’s Birbaha Hansda

In the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, Dr. Pranat Tudu of the Bharatiya Janata Party has registered clear victory In Bhimpur (Parliament ward 237), defeated Trinamool Congress candidate Birbaha Hansda by a margin of 22,977 votes. After 22 rounds of counting, Tudu got 1,07,238 votes while Hansda got 84,261 votes.Bhimpur (ST), Parliamentary Constituency No. 237, is located in Jhargram subdivision of Paschim Medinipur district in Jangalmahal district deep in South Bengal, bordering Jharkhand to the west and Odisha to the south. The constituency includes Binpur I and II community development areas, covering dense forests, hilly terrain of Sal forest, Subarnarekha river basin and scattered tribal settlements. The electorate population of approximately 216,000 is dominated by Santhal, Munda, Ho and other Scheduled Tribe communities based on subsistence agriculture and forests.Key issues of concern to voters include land rights under the Forest Rights Act, implementation of MGNREGA, access to drinking water, tribal-specific welfare schemes, road connectivity in remote forest areas and resolution of conflict-era displacement in Jangalmahal. A typically sensitive constituency for Janjamahal: once disturbed by the Maoists, it is now stabilized under the leadership of the TMC. High turnout (85.6%), TMC-BJP-Left bipolar contest. In 2021, TMC’s Debnath Hansda won with 39,494 votes (a margin of about 21.3% compared to the total vote count of 185,493) – a landslide. The huge margin makes Bhimpur a safe seat for the TMC and the most decisive TMC victory in the Jangalmahal belt; serving as a barometer of tribal consolidation under the TMC leadership in Jhargram Lok Sabha.
