According to authorities, the suspect locked himself in a car with a female hostage Sunday night and eventually released her around 11 p.m. The man was later taken into custody, KABC reported. The connection between the suspect and the hostages was not immediately released. No further information about the hostages has been released.
The confrontation occurred at the intersection of Robertson Avenue and Burton Road, between Beverly Hills and Los Angeles Near Beverly Grove.
The suspect is accused of using his car to collide with a deputy from the state. Los Angeles Sheriff’s Information Bureau Deputy Tracy Koerner told The Times about 3 a.m. Sunday in the unincorporated area of Lennox, near Inglewood.
Law enforcement conducted an early morning traffic stop near the intersection of Hawthorne Avenue and West 104th Street. Information on the initial reason for the stop was not immediately available.
At one point an attempt was made to arrest him. A confrontation ensued and as the suspect tried to flee, his vehicle struck an officer, Koerner said. Fortunately, the adjutant was not seriously injured.
Subsequently, around 1:30 pm on Sunday, Beverly Hills police received a notification from the automatic license plate recognition system, indicating the presence of the suspect’s vehicle, a gray Ford pickup truck.
“Following a brief pursuit, officers attempted a traffic stop,” the Beverly Hills Police Department said in a statement, according to the Los Angeles Times.
“The pursuit ended with the suspect vehicle colliding with another vehicle in the area of Burton Road and Robertson Avenue,” police added.
In addition to the alleged attempted murder, the suspect was charged further in Beverly Hills, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
