Srinagar: A 63-year-old man arrested for trying to shoot former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah at a wedding in Jammu has said in a viral video that he had been planning to assassinate the National Conference president for the past two decades. Police have not confirmed this claim.“I have been trying to kill Farooq Abdullah for the past 20 years. This is my personal agenda. I tried today but failed. This weapon is my personal weapon and was issued to me,” he said. The defendant further stated in the video that he was 63 years old and did not do any work.Jammu Ajay Sharma of SP city Jammu South said an incident of firing with licensed weapons took place at a wedding in which former chief minister Dr Farooq Abdullah was also present. Sharma wrote onKashmir chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on It read: “The news about the attempted killing of Dr Farooq Abdullah Sahib at an event in Jammu is worrying and reprehensible. I am relieved to know that he escaped unscathed. Someone is carrying The weapons were so close and fired at him that a thorough investigation is needed.” People’s Conference Chairman and legislator Sajjad Lone condemned the incident and said, “Condemn the cowardly firing of Mr. Farooq, Mr. Surinder Chaudhry Ji and Mr. Nasir Aslam. Thanks to Almighty Allah, they are safe. “While HDP MP Waheed Parra described the incident as shocking. The violence against such a senior leader is completely unacceptable and is condemned in the strongest possible terms. Praying for his safety and long life. “Ruling National Conference lawmaker Agha Ruhura Mahdi condemned the incident, calling it reprehensible.He said such acts of violence were deeply worrying and stressed that those responsible must be dealt with seriously in accordance with the law.
