The MrBeast sued Canadian production company MHQ for US$5 million over disputes related to the production of “Beast Games”. According to “Toronto Life” report, MrBeast’s company filed a lawsuit against MHQ (Media Headquarters Film and Television Company) in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.
MHQ is the Toronto-based production company that helped produce the first season of the hit Amazon show.
According to court documents, Donaldson’s company proposed to MHQ in 2024 to film and air a complete series of “Beast Games” by December of that year. The show’s production was massive, requiring a space that could accommodate more than 1,000 contestants and crew.
Under the agreement, MRB2024, MrBeast’s company allegedly paid $5 million to MHQ on May 23, 2024. A week later, MrBeast’s company allegedly decided to move production from Ontario to Atlanta, Georgia, without MHQ. But the company reportedly changed its mind the next week, believing the U.S. move would not succeed.
According to The Globe and Mail, when MrBeast’s team tried to work with MHQ again, the Toronto company refused. As a result, MrBeast’s team had to find another Canadian partner.

MHQ retaliated against the lawsuit almost immediately. In a countersuit last month, MHQ claimed it should be allowed to keep the $5 million payment and receive an additional $10 million in damages for breach of contract, unjust enrichment, negligence or negligent misrepresentation.
MHQ claims the short-lived cancellation of the project has severely damaged its reputation as a reliable and trustworthy producer. The company was forced to lay off recently hired employees, many of whom turned down other jobs for new ones.
According to Toronto Life , MHQ claims it laid the groundwork for the show’s production but received no credit or executive producer credit.
Variety reports that in 2024, multiple contestants filed lawsuits against MrBeast, Amazon and production partners, alleging abuse during the filming of the competition, including allegations of dangerous conditions, failure to provide medical care and withholding wages.
