BCCI issues warning to IPL captains over catch rule, shares latest updates on impact player rule

Officials were shown multiple video clips, including recent instances from the T20 World Cup where catches were deemed invalid due to a lack of complete control.The message is clear: this rule will now be strictly enforced. Former India pacer Javagal Srinath and elite umpire Nitin Menon spoke during the 90-minute session.

Rules that affect players left behind

The meeting also confirmed that the impact player rule will remain in effect for at least another season, but there are no immediate plans for a review. Despite concerns raised by some players, BCCI and IPL officials have made it clear that the rule will continue at least until the 2027 season.delhi capitals captain Axar Patel openly criticized the rule and said: “To be honest, I don’t like this rule because I am an all-rounder. Earlier, you would have picked an all-rounder in batting and bowling. However, officials said any formal review of the rule would only be considered after the 2027 season.“We discussed it and made it clear to all of us that the impact player rule will remain in place for at least two more seasons,” a team representative who attended the meeting confirmed.
