Australian man arrested for ‘forcibly assaulting’ TSA worker in bizarre incident at LAX

one Australia Traveler Thomas Jesse Bingham, 35, was charged with Los Angeles international airport. He allegedly grabbed a TSA agent by his uniform, ripped off his identification card, pulled his hair and pushed him into a glass partition. The incident occurred on March 18, 2026, at Los Angeles International Airport.

The altercation began when Bingham couldn’t find his backpack and travel documents, leading him to falsely accuse TSA staff of theft.

TSA officer attacked at LAX

According to the indictment and affidavit, on March 15, the victim, a uniformed TSA officer on duty, was leaving a restroom at the Sterile Area Connector between Terminals 6 and 7 at Los Angeles International Airport. “After leaving, Bingham was booked to fly from Los Angeles to las vegas – Approached the victim and accused him of taking his backpack and passport. Bingham then forcibly assaulted the victim, grabbed the victim’s uniform, pulled the victim’s TSA ID lanyard from around the victim’s neck, grabbed and pulled the victim’s hair, and pushed the victim through a glass wall,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a release.

Prosecutors said Bingham was planning to travel to Las Vegas when the incident occurred.

Australian traveler arrested after TSA officer was injured

Bingham was first arrested and then again before trying to board a flight to the United Kingdom, officials said.

The agent suffered injuries to his hands and back and required medical evaluation.

Bingham faces federal charges of assaulting a federal officer and faces up to eight years in prison if convicted. He is currently in custody and awaiting trial.

The TSA Office of Enforcement and Investigations is currently investigating the matter with support from the Los Angeles Airport Police Department.
