Austin shooting motive

Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis said a clear motive for the shooting has not yet been determined, KATV reported.

“I don’t know what motivation would drive anyone to drive around this city and take pictures for no reason,” she said.

Davis identified two suspects, a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old, KATV reported. The older teen had an outstanding warrant for a firearm theft from the same store where the gun was stolen on Saturday, May 16. David confirmed that both guns used in the shooting were stolen.

When Manor police and Travis County Sheriff’s Office deputies stopped the vehicle, the third suspect fled the vehicle. The suspect was arrested by Manor police hours later.

All three suspects fled on foot. Because the search area was large and spanned multiple communities, helicopters and drones were deployed to locate the third suspect. Shelter-in-place was initially announced but later lifted.

In 12 separate incidents, shots were fired at fire stations and multiple apartment buildings. This prompted police to go door-to-door to check on residents. Four people were injured in the shooting.
