The Justice Department announced the FBI arrests Wednesday, saying the FBI’s multi-state forces and its Violent Crimes Unit were “actively” investigating the allegations in the case.
The statement released by the U.S. Department of Justice did not say where Vinnie Shesti was charged. He is from Memphis, Tennessee, where he is likely being detained by the FBI. As of now, his photos have not been released to the public.
Meanwhile, Memphis’ Action News 7 confirmed that Shiesty’s father, a former rapper who goes by the stage name “Mob Boss,” was arrested in Cordova, Shelby County, tennessee.
None of the defendants have yet appeared in court and may remain in FBI custody pending a judge who may release them on bail.
The U.S. Department of Justice said that in addition to Pooh Shiesty (Lontrell Williams, Jr), Big 30 (Rodney Wright, Jr) and Lontrell Williams Sr, the other eight people arrested include: Kedarius Waters, Terrance Rodgers, Damarian Gipson, Demarcus Glover, Kordae Johnson and Darrion McDaniel.
The North Texas Attorney General’s Office disclosed details of the case in a news release. At a news conference, Texas U.S. Attorney Ryan Raybould elaborated on the incident, charging Shesti and his associates with kidnapping and robbery.
He said Shiesty went to Gucci Mane’s Dallas studio to negotiate a contract agreement with Mane’s production company, 1017 Records. Shiesty is signed to the brand through at least 2021. They allegedly staged an “armed takeover” at the studio, resulting in injuries to many of Mane’s colleagues. Then they brought cash, jewelry, Rolex watches, and other valuables kept in the studio.
“Instead of discussing business in a civil manner, the defendants resorted to violence and intimidation to achieve their purported business goals,” attorney Ryan Raybould said. “For anyone considering using violence and intimidation as a business practice, I am here to tell you that this will be vigorously investigated and prosecuted by the Northern District of Texas.”
