New Delhi: Minister of Foreign Affairs Sujashankar According to the Iranian Embassy in Iran, Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi had a phone call with his Iranian counterpart Araghchi on Wednesday. The two sides exchanged views on the latest developments in the US-Iran ceasefire, bilateral relations, and regional and international issues. Jaishankar said on X that he received a call from Araghchi. “Conversations were held at length on various aspects of the current situation. We agreed to remain in close contact,” he said. This is the sixth dialogue between the two foreign ministers since the outbreak of the conflict in West Asia on February 28 and subsequent threats related to the Strait of Hormuz. It is understood that Jaishankar stressed the need to resolve the issue through dialogue and diplomacy and ensure safe passage of commercial shipping through the strait. The conversation also took place ahead of a meeting of BRICS foreign ministers in India next month. Iran is a member of the group and Araghchi is expected to attend the meeting. However, there is no official confirmation yet. The BRICS nations have so far struggled to agree on the conflict, with a meeting of envoys held last week in India, the current chair, not producing a joint statement without consensus. India attributes this to the presence of conflicting countries in the organization. The United States imposed a naval blockade on Iranian imports, forcing Tehran to reopen the strait weeks after Iran blocked the strait. President Trump has discussed with U.S. oil companies how to mitigate the impact of a potentially months-long blockade of Iranian ports, Reuters reported in Washington. Tehran has warned of “unprecedented military action” in response to the United States’ continued blockade of ships linked to Iran.
