New Delhi: India-A has announced its individual squad for the upcoming tour of England, with Anushka Sharma set to lead the T20 team and Harleen Deol captaining the ODI team. The tour will host three T20Is starting from June 20, followed by three one-day matches from July 1.Anushka Sharma, who recently made her international debut during India’s tour of South Africa, has quickly earned the leadership responsibility in the T20 stages. Vrinda Dinesh has been appointed as the vice-captain of the T20 team.Meanwhile, Harleen Deol, who missed out on India’s Women’s T20 World Cup squad, will lead the ODI team to England. Pratika Rawal has been appointed as the vice-captain for the ODI series.The selectors have also rewarded several young and emerging players with induction into the Indian A-League. G. Kamalini and Vaishnavi Sharma, both of whom have recently featured for the Indian senior team, have been included in both squads.Jintimani Kalita earned her first call-up to India A in both formats, while Tanisha Singh and Purvaja Verlekar are new faces in the ODI and T20 ranks respectively.
The England tour is expected to play an important role in developing India’s bench strength and giving young players overseas exposure. This is also a crucial time as India continues to build its squad for future ICC events.The T20 squad includes players like Minnu Mani, Shabnam Shakil and Tanuja Kanwer, while the ODI team has experienced domestic players like Priya Punia, Tejal Hasabnis and Sayali Satghare.With young talents and players already on the radar of national selectors, the India A tour could become an important platform for future senior team opportunities.
