New Delhi: India dominates World Para Athletics Grand Prix with Paralympic champions Sumit Antill Winning the gold medal in the men’s javelin throw (F43/F44/F64) competition, taking the lead. The two-time Paralympic gold medalist won the title with a strong throw of 69.25 metres. Fellow Indians Pushpendra Singh and Poonam Ram completed the podium with silver and bronze medals respectively.Antill admitted his game-winning pitch went better than he expected. “We have multiple games this time and I will try to perform well in the coming games. It’s a loading phase of the off-season for me. I didn’t expect a throw like this; I expected around 67-68m, but the throw today was good, 69.25m. So I’m happy and my team is happy,” he said. The 27-year-old from Sonipat in Haryana added that he focuses on improving gradually rather than changing his technique. “I’m not going to change my technique because we know we’re going in the right direction in training. Now, we just need the right conditions to get the throws in place perfectly. That’s why I’m participating in the tournament, so I can find those conditions somewhere,” he added.Looking ahead, Antill has set a major goal for this season. “My goal is the Asian Games, and the target is 75m. I haven’t reached that goal in training, and no athlete has, but I’m working on making any possible improvements in technique or strength to reach that goal.”India’s success is not limited to the javelin, with several athletes achieving medals in track and field events. India dominates many competitions and throwing events such as 400 meters, shot put, long jump, discus, javelin, etc. Indian athletes frequently occupy the podium.Overall, it was another impressive appearance by the Indian Para Athletics team, showing great depth and momentum ahead of the upcoming international competitions.
