New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday accused Congress leaders of putting the lives of Indians in the Middle East at risk by making dangerous statements.Addressing a rally in Thiruvalla, Kerala, the Prime Minister claimed that the Congress wants the Gulf countries to consider India as an enemy amid the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran.Prime Minister Modi said: “The Congress Party hopes that West Asian countries will regard India as an enemy. If we make some mistakes here and make similar statements, Indians living in the Gulf countries will be in trouble. Therefore, the remarks made by the Congress Party have angered the Gulf countries.”“Congress wants panic to spread and get an opportunity to abuse Modi. I want to tell the people of Congress, LDF, UDF that politics has its place, elections will come and go, but for me, the safety of lakhs of Keralites is the top priority and I am committed to that,” he added.Prime Minister Modi, however, mentioned India’s good relations with Middle Eastern countries and said the Gulf governments consider Indians as their own family.“Our friendship is strong and it is a good thing that all Gulf governments consider all us Indians as their own family and protect them,” PM Modi said.“But here, people are speaking this kind of language. I’m tired of telling them this is not the time to speak this way. The safety of the millions of our brothers and sisters who live there is our only responsibility. So stop talking nonsense so that our young people, our daughters, don’t get into trouble out there,” he added. The center has been monitoring the situation since the conflict began. Earlier, Prime Minister Modi also chaired a meeting with chief ministers and lieutenant governors of all states and union territories to review the situation.Additionally, the government has set up an inter-ministerial committee chaired by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh to monitor the situation.Voting for the 2026 Kerala Legislative Assembly elections is scheduled to be held on April 9, and counting of votes will take place on May 4. The term of this parliament will end on May 23.
