‘Absolutely not’: Indian-American Texas Republican chairman announces re-election bid, faces resistance

Abraham George, chairman of the Indian-American Texas Republican Party, has announced his re-election to the post but is facing a backlash on social media amid the ongoing anti-India rhetoric in Texas. “Absolutely not. Read the writing on the wall — Texans don’t want you,” George was told, while his past transgressions were highlighted. “Definitely not Texas… we’ve had enough. Who’s running against him?” another comment read. “You failed miserably. I will vote for whoever wants to replace you,” Abraham was teased. Texas is facing a backlash from two groups: Muslims and Indians. Texas Governor Greg Abbott has designated the Muslim Brotherhood and the Council on American-Islamic Relations as foreign terrorist organizations. Recently, the governor announced a freeze on H-1B hiring at state agencies and universities. Although H-1B specialty workers can come from any country, one of the targets is India. Some Indian companies that have employed H-1B visa holders in the past are under investigation after the Texas government requested details from the companies. Given this situation, Abraham George was under pressure because of his Indian origins. George also gained attention from his haters in 2023 when he confronted a man with a gun in front of his home. No harm or damage was caused by the incident and George was not arrested. Reports say he was fighting with a man whom he suspected was having an affair with his wife. Later, George and his wife issued a statement slamming the activist media and saying that, like every family, they had their share of misunderstandings and disputes. George Abraham, who supports Texas’ move to freeze H-1B hiring, said in a recent interview that the main issues facing Texas Republicans are property taxes, illegal immigration and the Islamization of Texas. Abraham George said the H-1B scams and abuses in Texas are crazy, adding that it would be a major problem for him.
