New Delhi: The Congress party has nominated senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, a sitting member of the Lok Sabha, and former MLA Vem Narender Reddy as its candidates in the upcoming Telangana Lok Sabha elections, which will be held later this month.The nominations were announced as part of the biennial Council of State elections, with voting scheduled for March 16 and counting scheduled for 5 pm that day, according to the Electoral Commission.The two seats in Telangana will fall vacant on April 9, when the terms of Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MP KR Suresh Reddy end.Singhvi is widely expected to retain his seat given the Congress party’s numerical advantage in the Telangana Legislative Assembly, which determines the outcome of the Lok Sabha elections through proportional representation.The Congress party has also fielded Vem Narender Reddy, a former MLA and adviser to Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, who is considered a close aide of the chief minister.Responding to his nomination, Narender Reddy expressed his gratitude to the party leadership. The last date to submit nominations is March 5, with scrutiny scheduled for March 6 and candidates can withdraw their nominations until March 9.
