A series of shootings occurred in multiple locations in Muscatine, USA, leaving at least seven people dead, including the only suspect Iowa police reportedly said on Monday (local time).
Police said a preliminary investigation showed the shooting in Iowa stemmed from a “domestic dispute” and that all victims “are believed to be family members of the deceased suspect.” Muscatine Police identified the suspect as 52-year-old Ryan Willis McFarland and said he was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound but later died.
The Muscatine County Joint Communications Center received a report of a shooting at 210 Park Avenue around 12:12 p.m., and officers and emergency medical personnel were immediately dispatched, police said in a statement.
Upon entering the home, officers found four people suffering from gunshot wounds. All four victims were pronounced dead at the scene, the statement said, adding there could be more victims.
“The suspect, Ryan Willis McFarland, 52, of Muscatine, left the residence prior to police arrival. Law enforcement located McFarland a short time later on the Riverwalk near the pedestrian bridge. He was found suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police and emergency personnel provided medical assistance, but he was pronounced dead at the scene,” police said.
“As the investigation progressed, detectives uncovered information that suggested there may be additional victims. Officers subsequently located a deceased adult male who apparently died from gunshot wound at a residence at 1509 Mill Street. Upon further search, officers located a business at 808 Grandview Avenue where another adult male was found deceased from an apparent gunshot wound,” police said.
“The Muscatine Police Department is receiving assistance from the Muscatine Fire Department, Muscatine Fire Department County Sheriff office, the Iowa State Patrol and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation,” it said.
The investigation remains active, police said, adding that detectives continue to process multiple crime scenes and conduct interviews.
The statement asks locals with information related to this incident to contact Lt. David O’Connor of the Muscatine Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit at (563) 263-9922, extension 608.
