Justice Department dismisses virus spread charges

In response to the reports, the Justice Department’s rapid response account posted two photos with the caption: “Fake News vs. Real News.”

A brief response suggested that the photo of Bundy being thrown into the trash could be “fake news,” but officials did not clarify or provide any further details.

Bundy suddenly quits

Bundy’s departure was prompted by Donald Trump Thursday.

In an article published in Truth Social, Trump praised her as “a great American patriot and a loyal friend,” adding that she had seen a significant drop in crime and would move to a private sector role.

He also confirmed that Deputy Attorney General Todd Branch will take over as acting attorney general.

However, the announcement did not specify the reason for her removal.

Her exit comes amid increasing scrutiny over the Justice Department’s handling of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier who died in federal custody in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

Bundy reacts to departure

Bundy addressed her exit in a post on X and said she would help ensure a smooth transition. “Over the next month, I will work tirelessly to transition the Office of the Attorney General to the amazing Todd Branch,” she wrote.

She described her time leading the department as “the honor of a lifetime” and said she remains “eternally grateful” to Trump for giving her the opportunity.

With Branch now serving in an acting capacity, attention is turning to who might be tapped to permanently lead the Justice Department. Reports have suggested several potential contenders, including senior government figures.
