London Mayor Sadiq Khan shared photos of a large public iftar gathering in Trafalgar Square on Tuesday, highlighting the city’s diversity and unity during the final week of Ramadan.He posted photos of celebrations including Easter, Diwali, Hanukkah and Hanukkah and wrote: “It’s Eid in Trafalgar Square. It’s Easter, Diwali, Hanukkah and Chanukah. London is and will always be a place for everyone. #UnityOverDivisionThe gathering was part of the Ramadan Tent Project’s Open Eid program, with around 3,000 people attending the 2026 Ramadan Festival closing event in Trafalgar Square. As the holy month of Ramadan comes to an end, the event brings people from different communities together to share a meal. It is considered one of the largest open iftar parties in the Western world. Open Iftar events were launched in 2013 and are held in various locations across the UK. This year, the tournament is also held at venues such as AFC Wimbledon and Horizon 22 in London.The evening included speeches from community leaders and public figures, as well as Quranic recitations and an after-dinner Nasheed performance.The theme of the gathering was unity, inclusion and sharing community experiences, and organizers said the initiative welcomes people regardless of faith or background.
