Georgia Taxpayers are about to get some money back. Gov. Brian Kemp has signed one-time tax rebates worth more than $1.2 billion, and the state has begun making payments. This is the fourth time Georgia has done so under Kemp’s leadership, following similar refunds in 2022, 2023 and 2025, all of which were funded by the state’s budget surplus.
“Georgians know best how to spend their money, not the government,” Kemp said. he is. “That’s why we’re committed to being good stewards of those dollars, putting more of them where they’re meant to be spent, in the pockets of Georgians at a time when other states are having to raise taxes.”

The amount you receive depends on how you file your taxes:
However, no one can receive more in income tax than they actually paid in the 2024 tax year, meaning some low-income taxpayers may receive less than the maximum amount mentioned above.
To qualify, you must file a 2024 tax return by the April 15 deadline, have tax liability for that year, and be a Georgia resident, part-year resident, or nonresident. If you owe the state back taxes or child support, your refund may be used to pay off those debts.
How you receive your refund depends on how you filed your original tax return.
If you file electronically, your refund will be deposited directly into the bank account you used. If you submit by mail, you will receive a paper check sent to your address.
To check your eligibility, visit the Surplus Rebate Checker on the Georgia Department of Revenue website at dor.georgia.gov.
To check the status of your refund, you will need your Social Security number or individual taxpayer ID number and your federal adjusted gross income from your state tax return (found on line 16 of Form 500 or line 4 of Form 500EZ).
“Our team is ready to deliver these refunds to Georgia taxpayers efficiently and securely,” said Department of Revenue Commissioner David Burge, according to WABE. “We have established a process that prioritizes accuracy and speed so that eligible filers can receive their funds as quickly as possible.”
Most eligible taxpayers can expect to receive the money in the coming weeks, depending on when they file their tax returns.
